We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Tax Accountant/Senior Tax Preparer to join our growing CPA firm. This position is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving complex tax matters, and taking ownership of their work from start to finish.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of recent experience preparing both individual and business tax returns and is comfortable independently managing a client portfolio with minimal supervision. This is not simply a tax preparation role—it requires a trusted advisor who can confidently communicate with clients regarding tax strategies, planning opportunities, and complex tax matters.

During tax season, this position requires dedication, flexibility, and a willingness to work extended hours to meet client deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review
  1. Prepare complex individual, business, partnership, S-Corporation, C-Corporation, trust, and fiduciary tax returns.
  2. Review financial records and identify tax issues, risks, and planning opportunities.
  3. Research complex federal and state tax matters.
  4. Prepare tax projections and estimated tax calculations.
  5. Ensure all work complies with current tax laws and professional standards.
  6. Maintain exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
Client Advisory & Tax Planning
  1. Meet with clients virtually and in person to discuss:
  2. Tax planning strategies
  3. Complex tax situations
  4. Estimated tax payments
  5. Entity structure recommendations
  6. Year-end tax planning
  7. Multi-year tax forecasting
  8. IRS notices and correspondence
  9. Build long-term relationships by serving as a trusted tax advisor.
  10. Proactively identify opportunities to reduce clients’ tax liabilities.
Client management
  1. Independently manage an assigned client portfolio.
  2. Communicate professionally and promptly with clients.
  3. Request and organize tax documentation.
  4. Manage multiple deadlines while maintaining high client satisfaction.
  5. Provide timely updates regarding return status.
Team collaboration
  1. Collaborate effectively with partners and fellow team members.
  2. Mentor and provide guidance to junior tax staff.
  3. Review work prepared by junior staff when requested.
  4. Participate in internal training and knowledge sharing.
Operational responsibilities
  1. Maintain accurate documentation within firm systems.
  2. Utilize CRM and workflow software to track projects.
  3. Assist with process improvements and workflow optimization.
  4. Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Minimum 3 years of recent public accounting tax experience.
  2. Experience preparing:
  3. Individual tax returns (Form 1040)
  4. Partnerships (Form 1065)
  5. S-Corporations (Form 1120-S)
  6. C-Corporations (Form 1120)
  7. Multi-state tax returns
  8. Experience communicating directly with clients regarding complex tax matters.
  9. Experience performing tax planning and tax projections.
  10. Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws.
  11. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  12. Demonstrated ownership mentality and accountability.
  13. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  14. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  15. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. CPA license (active or in progress)
  2. EA (Enrolled Agent)
  3. Experience with Canopy CRM
  4. Experience with Intuit ProConnect Tax
  5. Experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  6. Experience with payroll tax compliance
  7. Experience with bookkeeping and accounting adjustments
  8. Experience with tax resolution or IRS correspondence
  9. Experience with tax research software
  10. Experience with sales tax compliance
  11. Multi-state taxation experience
Technical Skills
Preferred experience with:

Minimum Commitment
